Mosquito Control
Learn how to prevent and control mosquitoes, before they control you!
Try to eliminate the breeding grounds
Ponds:
If you have a pond in your garden, either add BTI to the pond to stamp out the breeding or add an adequately sized fountain feature to the pond to ensure the water is not left standing still. Or do a bit of both.
Bird baths:
Keep bird baths clean on a regular basis during mosquito season.
Gutters:
If you home or garage is in a shaded area of your land, keeping debris out of the gutters is a very cheap form of mosquito control.
Standing Water:
Keep spare tires (and other items that can collect water) stored in sheltered areas of your land to cut out the standing water areas that mosquitos love so much. After a mid-summer rainfall, mosquitoes flourish. If
your yard has large undulating areas that just love to hold standing areas of water, treat them with BTI Mosquito Dunks to stop the mosquitoes hatching. You can even pre-treat areas known to flood by
staking down a briquette every 100 square feet.
Grass:
Keep your lawn mowed and bushes trimmed throughout the mosquito season. This eliminates a welcome mosquito roosting place and makes your yard a nicer place for you to spend time once you have reclaimed it.
Car ports:
Car ports are regular haunts for roosting mosquitoes. A couple of
easy options here. Place
Flowtron bug zappers or a Flypod to attract and kill them. The flypod is a silent and discreet approach....Or mix up DemonWP to double strength and spray in there. Mosquitoes hate
DemonWP.
Indoor search and destroy:
Window and door screens are vital to homes in mosquito infested parts of the country but they never manage to stop mosquitoes gaining entry to your home. A well placed Flypod
or other glue trap will prove to be a huge attractant during those dark hours when mosquitoes love to
attack us inside our own homes. Just remember to replace the bulbs at the start of every "mosquito"
season as they lose their attraction as they get old. These safe insect sprays are natural and SAFE to use indoors.
Outdoor Seek and destroy
Cutting down the breeding grounds is a large part of mosquito control but it is not the be all and end all. It cuts down the mosquito population growth but you have no control over mosquitoes breeding in areas surrounding your property and as close to perfect attacks on the breeding grounds still leaves "survivors".
Kill them:
Use a machine such as the Flowtron Mosquito PowerTrap, the
Coleman Mosquito Deleto or the No Propane PowerVac to attract and kill mosquitoes from within your yard.
Deter them:
Place devices such as the Mosquito Guard,
ThermaCell Mosquito Repellent or repellants such as Gnat
Scat or Mosquito
Barrier around areas of your yard where you want humans to go but mosquitoes to avoid. Machines are great at killing mosquitoes, but are not meant to be placed too close. Utilizing deterrents and repellants to restrict mosquitoes
from your immediate outdoor living area is a big part of a full mosquito control solution.
Natural pyrethrum sprays also act as a repellant and a killer providing a nice
barrier against mosquitoes and other insects. Natural and Safe.
To Stop and Restrict Mosquitoes
Roof lines:
Most mosquito breeds are attracted to light which is why you see them flocking to your kitchen window and porch light. Mix up DemonWP to double strength and spray around your roof line to drastically reduce the magnetic effect it has on roosting mosquitoes.
Falling Leaves:
Using the Flowtron Electric LeafEater won't give mosquitoes or other biting insects a chance to hide or breed in yard or garden waste. Plus it reduces 11 bags of leaves into one leaving you with nutrient rich mulch and a nice and tidy yard.
